چکیده

A polarimetric radiometer is a radiometer with the capability to measure the correlation information between vertically and horizontally polarized electric fields. To better understand and calibrate this type of radiometer, several research efforts have been undertaken. 1) All microwave radiometer measurements of brightness temperature (7B) include an additive noise component. The variance and correlation statistics of the additive noise component of fully polarimetric radiometer measurements are derived from theoretical considerations and the resulting relationships are verified experimentally. It is found that the noise can be correlated among polarimetric channels and that the correlation statistics can vary as a function of the polarization state of the scene under observation. 2) A polarimetric radiometer calibration algorithm has been developed which makes use of the Correlated Noise Calibration Standard (CNCS) to aid in the characterization of microwave polarimetric radiometers and to characterize the non-ideal characteristics of the CNCS itself simultaneously. CNCS has been developed by the Space Physics Research Laboratory of the University of Michigan (SPRL). The calibration algorithm has been verified using the DetMit L-band radiometer. The

Verification of L-band Fully Polarimetric Noise Injection Radiometer Measurement Capability

Abstract A functional test to verify the proper and accurate measurement capability of an L-band fully polarimetric noise injection radiometer is presented. The test is designed specifically for the MDPP-2 (MIRAS Demonstrator Pilot Project 2) NIR (Noise Injection Radiometer), which has two functions: (1) to calibrate the MIRAS (Microwave Imaging Radiometer using Aperture Synthesis) instrument b...

A calibration method for fully polarimetric microwave radiometers

A technique for absolute end-to-end calibration of a fully polarimetric microwave radiometer is presented. The technique is based on the tripolarimetric calibration technique of Gasiewski and Kunkee, but is extended to provide a means of calibrating all four Stokes parameters. The extension is facilitated using a biaxial phase-retarding microwave plate to provide a precisely known fourth Stokes...

Soil Moisture Active/Passive (SMAP) L-Band Microwave Radiometer Post-Launch Calibration

 Abstract— The SMAP microwave radiometer is a fully-polarimetric L-band radiometer flown on the SMAP satellite in a 6 AM/ 6 PM sun-synchronous orbit at 685 km altitude. Since April, 2015, the radiometer is under calibration and validation to assess the quality of the radiometer L1B data product. Calibration methods including the SMAP L1B TA2TB (from Antenna Temperature (TA) to the Earth’s surf...

HUT fully polarimetric calibration standard for microwave radiometry

This paper describes the Helsinki University of Technology’s Fully Polarimetric Calibration Standard (FPCS). The developed standard generates a complete Stokes reference vector and it is applied for the end-to-end absolute calibration of a fully polarimetric microwave radiometer at 36.5 GHz. The FPCS is based on the function principle of a Gasiewski–Kunkee linearly polarized (tripolarimetric) s...

A correlated noise calibration standard for interferometric, polarimetric, and autocorrelation microwave radiometers

A new type of calibration standard is presented which produces a pair of microwave noise signals to aid in the characterization and calibration of correlating radiometers. The Correlated Noise Calibration Standard (CNCS) is able to generate pairs of broad bandwidth stochastic noise signals with a wide variety of statistical properties. The CNCS can be used with synthetic aperture interferometer...
